Well done Greg! I'd be prepared for the worst though if I were you...

I don't feel qualified to step into the debate on the origins of D&D since I wasn't around. However, the statements about Dave's talents and social skills are plain insulting and having read works like the FFC and based on my brief meeting with Dave at GenCon a few years back I can say those simply aren't true.

I would like to applaud to Greg and Robert who instead of spending time bad mouthing others actually write about the good gaming moments! :)

I'll second that. It's easy to go negative on things like this, but it serves no purpose. And isn't this stuff really supposed to be about the good times? Otherwise, why play at all?

Its a shame that some of the comments about DA over there seem so personal. Its a shame that all involved can't post their reccolections without that; whether they're correct or not (I can't have an informed opinion of that, I've never met the chaps) it will upset acquantances on both sides. Seems OTT to me.

I agree. I think it would be interesting to hear about mr. Kask's experiences as a TSR editor, and I would have had no problems accepting his assertions of the quality of the material he was handed by DA if his entire texts had not been so strongly colored by his personal feelings. Now I find myself being suspicious towards the entirety of his statements.

BTW: OTT, whats that? :)

OTT=Over the top. Long been used as an abbreviation in the UK.

I don't know... I've got no reason to doubt Tims sincerity, and from his perspective (if he hasn't gamed with DA) then I can see where he might be coming from; he got stuff to re-formulate, he didn't see DA gaming, he's an editor who had a confused set of material to work with, so he doesn't quite see how what he was given from different sources really meshes together. I dunno, I wasn't there so I can't make an informed judgement. But Tim seems to have rather more antipathy towards DA than would make sense just from that, therefore the most likely explanation is that theres way more to this than I know about. So, again, the rational position is to say "I don't know".

I guess I should have held my peace, since I was physically shaking when I turned off my computer yesterday after posting on Dragonsfoot. I was probably still not in a position to post what I wanted to say in a rational and cohesive way...

As to the relationship between Mr Kask and Mr Arneson, I have no first hand knowledge. I have heard that they didn't get along very well when they worked together at TSR. I had moved away from the Twin Cities long before either of them went to work for TSR and was no longer in close contact with the group.

Yep. I'm just saying the way Tim expresses himself hurts his credibility.

Well, my attempt to gently subvert that discussion into 'different perceptions of the same thing' seem seem to have fallen flat.
