Oh, the pleasure.

Oh, the delight.

Oh, how were we flamed, oh, how did they mock us for saying things like:
"But I like the old rules better." Or: ""They screwed my setting."

And now they are living it themselves...

Patience is the seed for revenge...

Na, with TSR, this board would have been closed months ago...

Though, if they rereleased the RC... Or just think of the Black Box!!!

I dont really see why Old School fans feel so threatened by new editions. They dont really concern them anyway do they? Also, most Old School fans I know wouldnt buy new material even if Old School D&D *was* brought back, so I dont see what the fuzz is about.

I like seeing new things happen in the Gaming Industry. 4e sounds like it will have some good ideas, but generally will take D20 into more rules heavy miniatures oriented gaming which isn't what I am looking for in gaming right now. I will udoubtedly pick up the core books though if only to see what the fuzz is about. If they decide to launch a new setting for it, I might have a look at that one too, just as I did with Eberron. So far it sounds like they will be focusing on existing game settings though. Sadly Mystara appears to be too far down the list for much optimism.

The launch of D20 invigorated the industry dramatically, not just within the realm of D20 products, but things like nWoD and Mongoose RuneQuest could also be seen in this light. It seems unlikely that 4e will have as dramatic effects, but I am looking forward to seeing how other gaming companies respond.

Oh, d20 was a very good thing, and some of my best RPG books hail from that era.
I have nothing against 4e either, except that it is one step more away from the original stuff that drove me to D&D.

However, if, for example Blackmoor goes 4e, I'll surely support the new game as well...

Understandable. For me d20 was a step forward, a step back and a step to the side compared to old school D&D. I liked some of the changes, but like you there were other things I didnt like. In the end it actually made me appreciate classic D&D more. OTOH, Im a little sick of level based games at the moment so its all Savage Worlds these days.

Good good! I will support anything that does Blackmoor!

Personally, Im hoping ZGG will go the way JG did with the Wilderlands box and make things as rules independent as possible. That way fans of all editions and rulesets can enjoy the wonderful setting. Another idea is to make it completely rules neutral like the new Freeport sourcebook from Green Ronin. If they collected alot of the setting material from the various existing books and put it all into a deluxe edition full color hard cover sourcebook I would be in heaven!
