Come on folks, don't leave Havard all alone here, folks!
DQ was a very, very cool fantasy roleplaying game released by SPI,
a gaming company focused on wargames.
Compared to AD&D 1e, some of the DQ rules where a real improvement, while it was overcomplicated in other parts, at least in my impression.
For me personally, DQ's strength lied in the very good adventures that were developed for it. Many of the concepts that one would not see in most D&D modules for years to come from then, most notably the intent not to focus too extensively on "Tomb of Horrors"- or "House of Death"-like scenarios.
Then again, DQ had only a handful of released books for it, and declined quickly after TSR bought SPI.
While I personally tend to very basic systems like OD&D and C&C today, I am looking forward to an upcoming game that is apparently very inspired by the original DQ, and to be released this year, or maybe the next, called "Red Age".
Yours,
