Hi all,
So I got Palace of Otoncle, to run it when I find the time.
Now, the dungeons seems pretty hardcore for me. - I highly doubt that my players will make it. So, my basic question is, since I am fairly new to DQ, is that adventure just too hard?
Yours,
Rafael

| I recently bought that adventure too and thought the same thing. The PCs would either have to be fairy experienced (both the characters and the players themselves) or have a large group with people expecting at least a 50% die off rate! Since I rarely have more than 2 PCs in games I GM, I think I'm going to have to hold this one in reserve for some time! |

Yeah, the point with this adventure is really that it is not suited for beginenrs, but for a very advanced, power gaming group. One of the toughest *Haunted House* dungeons I've ever seen, but maybe one of the deadliest adventures there are. |

I ran it quite a few years ago. Sadly I don't remember a lot except that they didn't finish it. They were in a battle with Loklar and his minions and were about to win when the mage in the group backfired a spell and rolled 100 on the backfire table. The battle took a quick turn for the worse with the group barely getting out alive, although all were in tough shape. The only thing that had saved them was Loklar had fled the battle the battle moments before and so was unaware of the mage being taken out until it was too late. Although at the time everyone was disappointed with the result, in the end, Loklar turned into a long-term thorn in their side when he took an interest in the group. I don't remember all reasons anymore but he ended up blackmailing them into multiple missions for a while and eventually (after many years) turned into a ally of sorts to the group.
So all in all I had a positive experience running it.

I am considering to run the adventure as a sequel to the old *Beauty is only skin deep* adventure.
Yet, I am sure that I will power it down significantly. Especially Loklar seems way to tough for an average party. |
