I've done table top and chat based, but never snail mail, email or play by post type games, so I'm wondering how it is usually done.
I can figure the RPing part is pretty easy, but as for combat, etc - who rolls the dice (or do people use an online dice roller like chat games I've been apart of do) and is it one message a round type deal?

Anyway, a simple explanation would be good.

Reason being I currently have an itch to run Tegel Manor and wondering if this is a way to scratch it

rpol for example has a built in dice roller, so the players can roll their own dice.

in my german b11-game i roll all the dice (except for character creation), as you can progress faster and tell the players the outcome.

1. Count me in on Tegel.

2. I handle rolls like Glgnfz does; it's not perfect, and sometimes players argue, but it is the quickest way to solve a situation, and it keeps the game from being rules-intense.

3. If we go Tegel, I want to play a halfling!

So when you say "I roll all the dice" is that on a dice roller so that the players can see, or do you use actual dice?

I use actual dice. :smt001

If you like, check my Ravenloft game, which my group successfully completed about one month ago, to get an impression of how we play things out:

CLICKY

(The link leads to the last chapter in a series - I post there as Desdichado.)

Plaag - I'm pressed for time this evening, but I will give you some links to check out. Perhaps I can post some examples here as a sort of tutorial. My Wilderlands OpenRPG+ game uses the Necromancer Games forum occasionally to keep the game going by PbP inbetween sessions. I've been meaning to test out the HTML capabilities of this site to see if it is as sophisticated as the WotC PbP forum. I suspect there are some HTNL limitations here.

What exactly are you looking for that MY forum cannot provide!?

Seriously, if you point me to a specific add-on, maybe I can install it. :smt001

Do I still get the +3 on all missile weapons?

Would be interested in seeing some examples..so this is a *bump*

Also on average how long does these games take..one reason I'm thinking of doing this is because it would be slower then Tabletop and Chat games due to people on at different times..but still curioous.
