I guess it comes down to personal preference and personal interpretation of what can be done and what can't.
Firstly, I'm quite strict with Raising rules and conditions anyway, which my players don't object to, as it puts a fear factor into the game + their PC's become more precious.
My own interpretation is not around the level of the spell causing death, but what is left to work with. Using your example, Cab, the key word (for me) you used was "corpse." I would regard that something to work with and grant some sort of chance to Raise. Disintegrate, depending on personal interpretation could leave nothing ranging through to a fine dust. I would deem that the stuff of Gods to Raise........and unless Immortal Magic or an Artifact is present, it simply won't happen in my game.
That's just my way.....and will respect others will be different and creative, therefore will DM and play accordingly.
