Anyone here actually playing or DMing OD&D? I'm currently playing in two OD&D games and loving it just as much as I did way back in the day.

| Yep. Regular campaign, I've been running it for years, every Tuesday. |

Ahem... I haven't touched the game for yeeeaaars... until Raf said something about an oD&D gathering.
About the oD&D It is cool and all, but it has flaws. If you try to fix them according to the 3rd edition experience, the game becomes broken: I.e magic users getting bonus spells from intelligence sounds lame in oD&D rules since their spells are very powerful. On the other hand I hated running around in 90% of the adventure only to throw a spell in the big moment.
Still... it was a cool feeling at the end throw a sleep spell and down all the guards of the boss.
PS. Perhaps I'll try it again though. _________________ Don't call every undead wizard a lich! |

| A low level mage with one spell has many advantages. His equipment is cheap, he is lightly encumbered with no heavy weapons and armour, and he's smarter than the other PCs. He gets more skills (if you're using skills from the RC and Gaz series) 'cos of his intelligence bonus, so played well he's got the right equipment for the right occasion (he can afford to buy it and can carry it, being unarmoured and having more leftover money because of that), and he has the brains to use it. |

I've returned to where it all started for me back in 1986 - at the time was Mentzer's B + X sets. For me it was a nostalgic decision as well as free myself up from the frenetic spaghetti bowl that some refer to as 3.0/3.5.
My first DM'ing effort back in the old days was X1, so the decision was quite easy. I've managed to scrape together 7 PC's for a Friday fortnightly commitment. Only one session thus far, inclusive of character creation (at levels 4/5 - my group didn't want to restart from level 1).
Consensus from the group is it was the best RPG session experienced for some years. People, interaction, initiative and ideas took over from dice, which I felt was ruling our 3.0/3.5 efforts. The anticipation is high for this coming Friday.
If all goes well, the intent is leaning towards following up with X6 (as the PC's ship is blown off course heading back to the mainland from the Isle of Dread).....then continue with the X4/X5 epic. Seems a logical progression geographically. But for now, we'll see how X1 pans out and not get too far ahead of ourselves. _________________ Gaming Status:

you see, raf - that's what i meant with the od&d-problem...
for the collectors and other crazy guys rc, mentzer, molvay, holmes are NOT od&d! this will lead to further misunderstandings in the future. _________________ Brimli, Dwarven Fighter |

Maybe a rename.....or addition of a Forum covering "Classic D&D?"
Just a suggestion. _________________ Gaming Status:

| Personally I've never come across anyone who had an objection to 'classic' being referred to as OD&D outside of Dragonsfoot. |
