I think that there are three 'mainstream' AD&D gameworlds; Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms an Dragonlance. They all had representation in 1st ed as TSR gameworlds (Ravenloft was a module in 1st ed I believe, but never published as a whole setting), if memory serves, whereas all of the others (dark sun, birthright, etc.) all came along later, and few of the later ones really persisted into the 3e days.
So I think theres a definite difference between F'Realms and, say, Dark Sun. A board can have F'Realms (if you choose) without that opening any gameworld floodgates

 Ya know how much I like the Realms... Now, since I am about to start a campaign there, it's not sucha bad idea...

Actualy, I've been known to despise the Realms with fervent hate. I will run exactly ONE campaign there as DM, and then gladly forget it...
