Copyright on Howard's Conan expired?Hi all,
Me doing a bit math...
R: E. Howard died 1936... Now's 2007...
Does that mean that "Conan" is now public domain? 8O
Can't wait to write a story of how Conan is kicked from the throne of Aquilonia by... Rafe the Mighty... Errh...
Just read this at Wikipedia and got interested if this is indeed true. Any ideas?
Yours,

It depends. It looks like the original stories published in wierd tales and other pulp are public domain.
But the Conan most of us know are are result of a patische created by Camp and others. This was published as a series of paperbacks. (Most of the Conan of ....) I believe that the copyright on those has not expired. And the name Conan is trademarked so you couldn't use it as part of a title or advertising.
Basically the safest thing to do is wait until conan stories clear project gutenberg and when they do then you can use conan stuff from them as long as you don't use the trademarks of Conan.

Thank you very much! I read your other posts over at DF and really, the guttenberg option is pretty much the only way to go with this... Too bad that copyright is such a mess these days... I hope that the increasing public protest about this issue will change things sooner or later...
