I like him. He reminds me a granpa with the beard and the pipe, and what pipe! 
IMO he adds something in FR, he is a very important personality. Especially know he has gotten MYstra  !

Some of what I've read about him seems interesting, but I honestly don't know enough to vote. I do know that he's big in the FR world. I see to recall bidding on some small books or something from the El on eBay.
I noticed today that the Elminster has a daughter - at least according to the book I saw at the sci-fi bookclub.
